Bucket Day!

Posted on July 28, 2024January 12, 2025

Finally, all the math done, buckets prepped, today was the day to move my grain spawn into buckets (and a few shoeboxes)! In buckets, I put: Shittake, Lion’s Mane, Chestnut and Turkey Tail. In shoeboxes, I put: Golden Enoki, White Enoki and Turtle Shell Beech (not sure about this in a shoebox, might be better for a bucket, but we’ll see!). Overall, the recipe went well though i did seem to have more sawdust than needed. I think the baking of the bran (if there is no contamination) might be a new fave of mine and I’ve found a new source for bran.

The Martha was rusted and just a pain in the ass to put back together after the move.  I also was tempted by the fact that I could have the lights covered and not bother the room it was in.  So, I got a 24x24x48 Melonfarm grow tent!  I’m using the same lights and fan I had before and a shoe rack with $1 disposable cookie sheets from Dollar Store for shelving.  I set it all up and will dial it in as the jars colonize.

Starting with a Martha

Posted on May 19, 2023July 21, 2024

After some research, getting started with a Martha.  The lights are from Walmart, humidifier from Amazon and fan from dollar store.  I used a pipe joiner from Home Depot, cut a hole in the top of Martha and put a black filter and fan inside it.  It helped to stabilize the fan and carry its weight.

Edit: (2023-07-14) The monitor seen here appeared to work properly but never was accurate when I used the corded sensor nor even setting it inside itself inside the Martha.
